At the center of most development departments is the primary annual effort to secure contributed income from individuals, and in some cases, corporate contributions, too. It involves bringing a case for support of the organization, the cause or the mission to previous donors and prospective donors. And it means asking people to contribute in a timely manner, and to increase past giving.
The Annual Campaign involves: (a) having or acquiring mailing lists and email lists of prospective donors; (b) creating a direct mail solicitation packet that goes out to the prospects; (c) a staff to provide logistical and administrative support; and (d) a force of board members (sometimes with other volunteer support) who will provide as many direct, personal requests as possible; and (e) a board or volunteer leader who can motivate others to do the work required for a successful fund drive.
As a veteran fundraising profession, James P. Reber is able to provide expert guidance for an Annual Campaign, including support for some or all of the key campaign elements listed above.
Annual Campaign services include the following: Creating direct mail and email solicitation pieces, preparing board packets that optimize the time spent by board members (and focus on the ask, not the paperwork), as well as working with graphic artists and mailing houses and list brokers to provide the best in material support.
Services also include: training the board (and staff, if necessary) in the art of the Annual Campaign, coordinating publicity and promotion to support the effectiveness of the Annual Campaign, and maintenance of the returns through a professional database system; preparing and managing a kickoff to motivate the board; and using other techniques necessary for success.
